Sense and Sensibility

Outdoor Summer Series

Based on the novel by Jane Austen
Adapted By Kate Hamill

Directed By: Merlyn Q. Sell

June 11, 12, 18, 19 at 6:30pm
June 13th and 20th at 4:00pm

Sponsored by Black Hills Orthopedic and Spine Center, Forest Products Distributors, Dr. Richard and Nancy Gowen , BMS Financial Advisors and a Stanford M. and Lynda Adelstein Arts Grant via the Rapid City Arts Council.

Hilarious and heartbreaking, Kate Hamill’s adaptation of this Jane Austen classic is a true breath of fresh air. Set in late 18th-century England, the story follows Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, whose lives are upended when their father abruptly dies, leaving them penniless and with reputations at stake. Together the women must learn to mix sense with sensibility to find happiness in a society where love is ruled by money.

Family Friendly (recommended for ages 12 and up)

The Outdoor Summer Series will perform on the lawn to the west of the Performing Arts Center on the corner of 7th St. and Columbus St.. The event is free and open to the public (donations accepted). Just bring your chairs or blankets to the large outdoor area, perfect for social distancing, up to an hour before the performance time. Masks are required for anyone not vaccinated and strongly recommended for people considered to be at increased risk of more serious illness after contracting COVID-19.

Things to know for this outdoor performance:

-No tickets or reservations needed! Just show up!

-Patrons can park in the parking lot on Columbus St just like they are going to a production in the Historic Theater and then head towards the grass area to the right of the building.

-Seating will open an hour prior to the performance. (5:30pm on Friday and Saturday and 3:00pm on Sunday)

-Bring your own chairs and/or blankets. A limited area closest to the stage will be reserved for people with blankets so that their view will not be obstructed by chairs.

-We will have some bottles of water available for sale, but you may want to bring water to keep yourselves hydrated! Sunscreen and bug spray would probably be a good idea, too!

-Patrons will have access to restrooms inside the PACRC.

-If there is a high chance of inclement weather on performance days, the call will be made no later than 2 hours before the performance. If a performance is cancelled, the announcement will be sent out to our email list and posted on our Facebook Page and to the Facebook Event.
