Change in Artistic Leadership at BHCT

The Black Hills Community Theatre has announced changes in its artistic management. Managing Artistic Director Michael Kraklio has resigned to pursue acting opportunities in Houston Texas.  The board of BHCT is pleased to appoint Justin Speck as the interim Artistic Director effective June 1, 2014.

Michael Kraklio served as Managing Artistic Director since October 2011.  His association with the Black Hills Community Theatre began in 2002 and in twelve years’ he has acted, directed, served as technical director, sound and set designer, but mainly served as Education and Outreach Director and finally Managing Artistic Director. As E&O Director Michael managed the Cherry Street Players, initiated the Well Done Players, and taught acting and puppetry at the Black Hills Workshop.  His creative spirit will be greatly missed.

Justin Speck has been a theater teacher and director of theatrical productions at Central High School since 2004.  This year the Rapid City Public School Foundation selected him as Educator of the Year.  Justin also serves as Artistic Directors of ACTS (Advocates for Creative Theater Students) and regularly performs in plays at the Firehouse Theatre.

Speck said, “I’m extremely excited and honored to have been chosen as the Interim Artistic Director for Black Hills Community Theatre.  I feel it is a good fit for the organization and I look forward to bringing consistent high-quality productions to Rapid City.”
